This exhibition shows the gloriously colourful and nature-inspired work of mother and daughter artists, Jenny and Vicky Jones. It mostly features Jenny’s work, much of it in oil, from recent years and the more intimate and sensitive watercolour work by Vicky.

Jenny Jones

I am a self-taught, life-long artist, working mainly in oils but also in acrylic, watercolour, mixed media and on glass.  I am lucky to have had excellent art tuition at school and to have studied History of Art in London where, most days, I was able to see great art up close. My very earliest memories are of paint and colour and the joy, aged 4, of my first paint box!  My mother was a textile designer and artist and exhibited her paintings at the  Festival of Britain in 1953 and at the Royal Academy. A love of art was instilled at an early age and I owe her a great debt. Painting has always played an important part in my life and has been a constant presence. My inspiration comes mainly from natural forms, sometimes the small details of plants and trees, and creating a vibrant balance of colour and pattern is my main objective. Much of my work is abstract but in the details are often hidden a suggestion of intricate natural forms, hence the title and theme of this exhibition. ‘Growing Colour’ is what it’s all about!

Vicky Jones

My subjects are mainly landscapes, natural forms, and atmospheric effects and my style varies from representational to abstract, characterised by colour combinations, pattern and playful imagination.

I work freely and intuitively, seeing where markmaking and mood take me. My work is often influenced by Cotswold walks in which I experience all kinds of weather and like to observe the clouds, trees, leaves, flowers, paths and birds. Painting is an escape and attempt to capture the scenery and feel of a moment or place.

Being passionate about the History of Art, having studied it through to a doctorate, I look to many past artists and movements for inspirations, as well as reassurance. Reading, listening to music and always taking photographs when out and about fuel my creativity and give me a sense of interconnectivity.
