This exhibition by Isabel Rolfe and Charlie Organ aims to investigate the boundaries of the idea of ‘consumption’. Throughout this show we look to explore consumption in a tangible sense, whilst also examining consumption’s emotional connotations. With Organ’s work focusing on testing duration and deterioration, and Rolfe’s emotive attention towards grief and loss, we are excited to demonstrate our investigations through a variety of both image and sculptural artworks.
Isabel Rolfe, an artist based mainly in Gloucestershire. Rolfe’s work traverses the boundaries between painting and sculpture through the medium of acrylic on canvas and cast sleeves. Immersed in a constant exploration of the human experience, Rolfe’s work is defined by the notion of capturing the depths of grief and pain. Inherently driven by emotional masking and the suffocating weight of suppressed sentiments.
Charlie Organ is a practising artist based in Gloucestershire. Organ uses concrete, testing its fragility, and challenging its duration: how it sets and how it can change other materials – such as roses. The structural properties of his aggregates are tested by the concrete as it deteriorates from its hold, allowing an insight into the material properties. His works oscillates between sculpture and painting; he often uses failed sculptural attempts and reworks them as works on canvas.
