Call to Artists – Cheltenham Literature Festival 2017

The Gardens Gallery and Cheltenham Literature Festival

This year, Gardens Gallery is celebrating its 10th Anniversary as a venue showcasing the work of artists living and working in the area. To mark the occasion, we have joined together with The Times and The Sunday Times Cheltenham Literature Festival to host an open art exhibition that will run for the duration of this year’s festival from Tuesday 5th October to Tuesday 17 October. (Literature Festival Dates are 6 -15 October)
We are inviting submissions from:
  • any artist who has previously shown at the gallery
  • artists who are Members of the Gardens Gallery Community Interest Company:
                    Cheltenham Open Studios
                    Cheltenham School of Fine Art
                    Cheltenham Art Club
                    Cotswold Art Club
                    Cheltenham Group of Artists
  • artists aged between 16 and 21 years
We welcome all forms of visual art, both 2D and 3D – from painting, sculpture, photography and textiles through to ceramics, glass, mosaics and digital art. The deadline for submissions is midnight on 30th July 2017.
A panel of art professionals, a representative of the Literature Festival team and an art-loving member of the public will select the work that best represents our theme:

Cheltenham: who do we think we are ?

You can submit a maximum of two works, for FREE. Selection will be limited to one piece per person.
To help cover costs, selected artists will be required to pay a hanging fee of £25. There will be a 15% commission taken on any sales made. The initial submission will be by email attaching image(s) of the work(s).
We want to encourage young artists between 16 and 25 to apply and will recognise them in the Awards we are planning: please encourage these entries from within Gloucestershire ; we will charge 50% of normal fees for these entries.
