Jan Petrie is a visual artist, with a studio near the Cotswold town of Painswick. This is her second exhibition at the Gardens Gallery. Over her career she’s exhibited in London and all over southern England. Her paintings can be found in private collections in the UK and many other countries.
Jan’s art is deeply rooted in and inspired by nature and the landscapes she has visited. In these new paintings she aims to convey a pared- down, elemental sense of detail, place and mood – the fundamental impressions that linger on in the memory.
Working mainly in oils, Jan sometimes bonds copper , gold, or silver leaf onto sections of the canvas for their aesthetic qualities – the specific light they lend to the finished work.
