Event Details

August 2020 VIEWPOINT The VIEWPOINT exhibition at the Gardens Gallery features recent work by three well-known local artists. Landscape, in its widest sense, is the main focus of the exhibition, which explores each artist's approach to the genre. Betty Harrison's atmospheric landscapes, Sally Wyatt's expressive abstracts and Mike Duckering's evocative urban scenes, all use differing media and mark making in their interpretations. And yet, in this bold and cohesive display, the paintings successfully complement each other, and reveal how personal perceptions influence visual expression. Mike Duckering first studied architecture at the University of Bath, and then worked for many years as an architect in Bristol, where he established his own practice in 1986. After retiring from architecture, he went on to study art at the University of Gloucestershire, gaining a BA Fine Art degree in 2013. Mike now lives and works as a practising artist in Cheltenham from his studio at Lansdown Art Studios. He has exhibited locally at Hadfield Fine Art, Cheltenham Open Studios and the Fresh Art Fair; and in Bristol at the Affordable Art Fair, Lime Tree Gallery and the Royal West of England Academy. After moving to Cheltenham she gained a BA in Fine Art at the University of Gloucestershire in 2007. In her second year at university, Betty was awarded the Summerfield scholarship to study at the British School of Rome. On completion of her degree she moved into her studio in Cheltenham. Betty has been represented by Hadfield Fine Art, a gallery in the Cotswolds, which has included participation in Affordable Art Fairs in Bristol and Battersea. She has shown and sold her work at the RWA Autumn Shows since 2010, and has also completed several commissions. For more information visit: bettyharrison.com Sally Wyatt is a self-taught artist with background in Earth Sciences and Decorative Arts. She works from her home studio in Fulbrook, Burford. Finding beauty in the bleak, her paintings are as much about life as they are about the real, imagined or half remembered wilderness landscapes that she loves. Emphasising texture and tone, intuitive processes and creative choices mimic entropy and evolution, continua and extremes. Hadfield Fine Art and The Burford Garden Co. Gallery represent her work in the Cotswolds.  Paintings have been selected by RWA Bristol, SWAc Exeter, and The Mall Galleries London by RSMA and The Discerning Eye.
