What to bring

It is important when working in pastel to have the painting as upright as possible. I recommend either a free standing or table top easel. To protect the floor please bring some floor covering, which can be taken outside to shake or throw away. I suggest you wear old clothing or protect with an over shirt or apron. Bring your own sketches or photos of suitable subjects. I will bring some additional material to use if required. Students must provide their own pastels and grounds. I hope to have a supply of grounds if more are required. There are many grounds that can be used, some of the best and readily available are Mi Tente or Art Spectrum pastel sheets Sugar paper is a cheap alternative Soft Pastels also come in many shapes and qualities, Unison are a good general choice but all makes are acceptable.

Arriving and Departing

The workshop will start at 10.00am. I shall open the gallery from 9.00am. It is permitted to drive into the park at 5mph with your hazard light flashing and park near the gallery to unload. (Please avoid driving on the central slabs in front of the gallery). Your car must then be re-parked. Unrestricted road parking in the area is very limited and the best option may be the all day car park off Bath Road, Leckhampton currently £5 a day. The workshop will officially finish at 4.00pm; however the gallery will not be closed until 5.00pm to allow flexible time for the `Crit’, clearing up, and fetching cars, for a repeat performance of your arrival. Students opting for more than one day may leave materials in the gallery.
