Remembered Spaces Angela Spencer Remembered Spaces Exhibition 2020

Angela Spencer brings her exhibition Remembered Spaces to The Gardens Gallery from 27th May - 2nd June 2020

This new collection includes paintings based on 30 plein air oil sketches from Angela’s 2018 residency at Cill Rialaig Arts Centre, co. Kerry, as well as drawings and paintings from Wales, North Yorkshire and the countryside around Stroud.

"The act of seeing and drawing has become the usual starting point for my paintings. There is something magical in making a drawing in situ – travelling to the site often by bike or on foot. Even if it the drawing is not completely accurate, my  intention starts to becomes manifest, and I take ownership of what I am seeing. This process completely changes the quality of the finished painting (which I work up in the studio) in a way that working from a photograph never can’’

Angela is a classical violinist and often responds to classical music when painting in the studio. Some of her favourite composers provided the mood of these paintings, including Delius, Sibelius, Neilsen, Beethoven, Ina Boyle and Mozart.

Angela has a studio in Stroud and exhibits regularly at venues around Gloucestershire. She has a BA in Fine Art from the University of Gloucestershire and teaches one to one. She plays violin in the Stroud Symphony Orchestra, the Capriol Chamber Orchestra and in chamber groups.
